From Melody Aslin, 2013:
John Parrott arrived in Annapolis, MD, in 1736, as an "Emigrant in Bondage" from Newgate Prison, England. The story, according to Timothy Parrott, who has written a Parrott Family History, goes that John Parrott had stolen two shirts in England, therefore, was sent to American colonies to serve 14 yrs as an indentured servant. We believe that he was indentured to either Francis Shepherd (Sheepherd), or his stepfather, Thomas Chapman, as John Parrott married Francis Sheepherd's sister, Naomi, in 1751. They had 7 children: Sarah, Ann, Comfort, William, Nicholas, Elizabeth, and John.

Notes: Martha Edith Parrott, daughter of Wallace and Lucy (Pratt) Parrott deceased, was born in Johnson County, Iowa, April 18, 1866.
Her girlhood days were spent in and around Iowa City, she having received her education in the Iowa City schools and was one of Johnson county's successful teachers until her marriage. In early girlhood she united with the Methodist church of which she remained a true member until her death.
On Novembr 23, 1892, she was united in marriage to P.C. Roberts of Windham, Iowa, and resided in that community until a few years ago when they moved to Farmington, Iowa, to make their future home when on October 4, 1917, the death angel veiled the home and claimed her.
To this union were born six children, Gladys at home, Wallace of Rock Island, Frank, Carrie, Margaret and Florence at home, who with the husband and father are left to mourn her untimely death. Two brothers, Edward of Spokane, Washington and Harlan of Los Angeles, California, survive her, an only sister, Mrs. Julia Ten Eyck, preceding her in death Dec 20, 1914.
Funeral services were held at the home Friday, October 5, at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Nelson of the Baptist church of Farmington officiating. The remains were then brought to Iowa City, thence to Windham for burial on Saturday, October 6, at 2:30 p.m. A short service being conducted by Rev. Karsteadt at the cemetery.
Her death came as a great shock to both relatives and friends altho in failing health for some time the end came so unexpectedly. Sadder still is when two daughters are in failing health and to know the mother tho worn and tired put forth every effort possible with untiring hands hoping with a mothers gentle care they might soon regain their health, but death claimed her all too soon to finish her undertakings; the daughters since have been taken to the hospital where hope exists for health and strength to be regained.

Notes: On Wednesday, September 30, 2015, Della "Jill" Parrott Holder was welcomed to her heavenly home and ended her lengthy illness on the earth. She has claimed her reward and has joined the saints around the throne of God. Praise the Lord!
Jill Parrott was born on December 8, 1929, in Midland, Texas, where she spent almost the entirety of her life. Her parents were Pearl and Lula Parrott, and she grew up in a loving, Christian home. This is where she began to learn the ways of servanthood and love that would continue for all of her natural life.
On June 4, 1949, she married her sweetheart, Joe Holder, in Odessa, Texas, and was married for 57 years until he preceded her in death. They built a wonderful life together based on love, for each other and their Lord. Jill and Joe raised two daughters, Bonnie and Lee Ann, and showered them both with love.
Bonnie was born in Odessa, and then they moved for a short time to Plainview and Lubbock, Texas, before returning to Midland where Jill continued her career of making a home. She had a fun-loving nature and loved being with family and friends. She was the hostess to many friends and was an excellent cook! Jill always volunteered at her daughter's schools and became a lifetime member of the PTA. She was a Brownie leader and homeroom mom and was very involved at her church, North A Church of Christ, as a bible teacher and was always willing to serve in any capacity. After Lee Ann began school, Jill was employed at Midland Christian School for many years and served as the Day Care Director. She and Joe were always believers in Christian education, as evidenced by her involvement in Lubbock Christian College Associates, PTPA, and LACE at Midland Christian. Her daughter Lee Ann graduated from Midland Christian as well as two of her grandchildren. Jill continued her servant life there and became the official gate keeper for all varsity volleyball and basketball games, complete with a bowl of Tootsie Rolls to share with incoming fans. She enjoyed traveling to her grandchildren's many sports events and continued her love of watching all sports for the remainder of her life. She and Joe were even fortunate enough to travel to the Los Angeles Olympics, which they thoroughly enjoyed.
Jill was a wonderful daughter, loving wife, devoted mother and extraordinarily blessed Mawgy, and will be sorely missed by many. She is survived by her daughter Bonnie Miller and her husband Rick Miller of Midland and daughter Lee Ann Holland of Newbury Park, California. She has three grandchildren, Amanda Blatnick married to Shar Blatnick of Kennedale, Texas, Josh Miller of Plano, Texas, and Ainsley Holland of Newbury Park, California. She also has one great granddaughter, Sharlee Blatnick of Kennedale, Texas. She touched many loves and there are many who feel her loss.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Ralph Parrott, Don Parrott and Glen Parrott and also by one sister, Charlene Ener.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Karen Carr and the wonderful caring staff at Texas Oncology, to the staff at Home Health for their exceptional care, to Hospice of Midland for their dedicated service at such a crucial time and to the staff at Martin County Hospital for serving so lovingly in her final hours. God bless you all in your efforts.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 4, 2015 from 3:00 pm- 5:00 pm at Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home. A service to celebrate Jill's life and to praise her Lord will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, October 4, 2015, at North A Church of Christ. Greg Fleming and Eddie Lee will officiate, and congregational singing will be led by Clinton Davis. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jack Holder, Greg Moore, Glenn Neimeyer, Bill Stewart, Gary Truex and John Worley. The family requests that memorials be made to North A Church of Christ, 505 San Angelo Street, Midland, Texas, 79701 or Midland Christian School, 2001 Culver Drive, Midland, Texas, 79705.
Arrangements are under the direction of Nalley-Pickle & Welch Funeral Home & Crematory of Midland. Online condolences can be made at www.npwelch.com

Notes: From the book jacket of "The Enigma of Polly Parrott" by Timothy C. Parrott https://books.google.com/books?id=3JjxXwAACAAJ&newbks=0&hl=en
"For this fourth volume in the Enigma Series, local history author Timothy Parrott has "unearthed" yet another riveting character from Iowa City's past. This time, the subject is the author's own grandfather, Charles F. "Polly" Parrott, best known as a respected, longtime superintendent of Oakland Cemetery. Polly's thirst for riches and adventure led him down a number of perilous paths. From the brightly colored tents of a carnival midway to the echoing clank of a prison cell door, the sights and sounds of Polly Parrott's 77 years of life truly ran the gamut. While he and his Bohemian wife raised a family of 12 children, Polly pursued a variety of legitimate and illicit vocations, ranging from skilled bricklayer to low-ranking member of the St. Louis mob and Chicago's notorious Capone Syndicate. This is his grandson's factual, no-holds-barred account of Polly's multi-faceted life, gleaned from the yellowed pages of old Iowa City newspapers and court records, and further brought to life with the addition of colorful memories from his closest relatives."
==================== PARROT BOY IS FOUND IN COLORADO Was with Iowa City boy who was working at Orchard, Col. LOCATED BY ROWLAND Discovery Made as a Result of Letters Written by Sherrif Rowland to a Number of Western Sheriffs.
Carl Parrott, the sixteen year old son of Charles F. Parrott, who disappeared from his home in Iowa City about four weeks ago and who since that time has kept his identity and location concealed, has at last been located by Sheriff Rowland at Orchard, Colorado.
The discovery of the lad came about through the efforts of the sherrif who had notified the officials in th west to be on the lookwout for him and it was thought by those acquainted with the situation that he had gone to that part of the country. He was found in company with an old Iowa City boy who been there for some time and who gave his name at (sic) Joseph Ownhouse, but is thought to have been Joe Yenosh, and who left Iowa City last March and has since that time been working on a sheep ranch.
Discovered by a Postcard. The identity of the lad was made known through a postcard picture of him which was taken but a short time before he left the city and which the sheriff sent to the western officials. Carl had confided to some of his friends that he was going west and for this reason his parents confidently believed that he had followed out his plans. "The lure of the west" had been calling him for some time and since he knew his parents would oppose any plan he might propose of going to the distant lands, he took this method of slipping off unknown to anyone. No plans have as yet been made about bringing him home but it is safe to assume that when he does return he will be a "sadder and a wiser boy."

================================= Retires After 26 Years City Service Parrott Gave Cemetery Job 'Extra' Touch
Charles F. Parrott has retired from his duties for Iowa City a city he had served faithfully for 26 years. Polly, as he is usually known, doesn't look - or feel, for that matter - as if he is ready for retirement, but he has reached the age of 69 and the job of city cemetery superintendent is a taxing one. It had to pass on to younger hands.
Polly, who had been superintendent of the city's Oakland cemetery since April 18, 1947, is keeping himself busy these days just the same by maintaining a part-time funeral equipment service. He started as a city employe with the street department in 1935. And ever since then, until his retirement, Polly says he always felt his big responsibility was "to please the taxpayer."
So much so does he feel this way, in fact, that Polly confesses he has gone to the extreme of telling the city "aldermen," as he calls them, that he was in his job to help and serve these taxpayers.
IN SERVING the past 22 or so years on the cemetery staff Polly performed a variety of helpful acts to grieving families. "I always wanted to be helpful to all people. I figure that the time when there is a death in the family is the time when people need help the most."
And so he has risen to the occasion a number of times to help in picking out lots and similar good deeds. Several times, his "beyond the call of duty" efforts have been placed him in the role of a substitute for a minister at graveside.
There were on occasions of funerals when the deceased had been brought from another town to be buried in Iowa City. In the haste to arrange the burial, families had overlooked arranging for a minister, so at the last minute, Polly took time off from his other cemetery chores to recite prayers at the grave. He as a prayer memorized that he recited for such occasions.
POLLY WAS born and reared in Iowa City's "bloody third ward." He recalls that oldtimers used that "the way the voting goes in the third ward is the way the election always goes." Polly's father, Charles, was in the grocery business there fro many years.
Polly spent a short time in the army in his younger years and once traveled with a carnival. He says he did everything in the carnival at one time or another - from handling snakes to serving as a "barker".
Polly married the former Anna Frances Neumann. Their family numbers 12 children, and now 43 grandchildren. Mrs. Parrott died October 4, 1959.
Polly, during World War I helped build ammunition factories in St. Louis. It was about the only exended period of time that he was away from Iowa City.
HIS CITY service was interrupted for only two years between 1935 and 1963. That was when he served as serviceman for the Eldon Miller trucking firm here.
Polly started with the street department and drove a truck at a time when the only other city truck was the garbage truck. "That was really hard work in those days." he says. "We did it all the hard way. Lots of days we would haul 16 big loads of street sweepings. In the winter we'd haul snow and ice." He remembers that the late Arthur Kloos was his partner on the truck in those days.
Then he switched over to the cemetery department and, eventually, tending to the 78 acres of grass and graves became his responsibility with a crew of three men. "My aim was to keep within by budget - be fair to the taxpayer. I've told aldermen my first obligation was to the taxpayer, not to them. When you're a city servant, you have to please the taxpayers."
THE SLOGAN Polly says he went by is: "If we please you, tell others; if not, tell us." He didn't hear many complaints from residents of the city, and today he says he wishes to thank all of them for their co-operation.
The city cemetery has been expanding since the first persons were buried there 100 years ago. Today, tven (sic) though Iowa City's population is growing, there are more graves at Oakland cemetery than there are people living in Iowa City- 40,000 of them, Polly says.
Many of the important presons in Iowa City's and Iowa's history are buried there. Graves at Oakland, and the old part of the cemetery called the "outlots", are the resting places for such men as Robert W. Lucas, first territorial governor of Iowa, and Samuel J. Kirkwood, Iowa's Civil war governor.
ALSO BURIED there is Chauncey Swan, called the "father of Iowa City", and his wife and child. Polly said the first white child born in Johnson county is buried in the outlots- W.J. Dunkel, born October 9, 1840; died, March 20, 1920. He added that a Mayor DeForest, who he said was the first mayor of Iowa City is buried in the outlots at the southeast corner of Governor and Church streets.
Polly says he hates to see what he feels is the marring of the beauty at Oakland cemetery in the modern day - the cutting down of many old oak trees.
Polly's nickname goes way back to the first day he went to school. He said he came home crying that first day as children called him "Polly Parrott." My mother said 'You are one' and that's all there was to that," Polly laughed. And he's been that ever since.

Marriage Notes: If Mr. Charles F. Parrott and Mrs. Mary Budreau had wanted a crowd on hand when they decided to be married several weeks ago, they could have come close to filling the church simply by notifying their respective descendants and families!
The bride has eight living children and 16 grandchildren; the bridegroom, 11 children and 43 grandchildren. Joint totals in the progeny department, therefore, are 19 children and 59 grandchildren - rather staggering figures when you think in terms of birthdays and Christmas presents!
The newlyweds, longtime friends whose first spouses (both deceased) also were acquainted, have been residing at 608 West Benton street since their marriage Saturday, September 30, in St. Mary's church here. Of all the children, only one is still at home - Mrs. Parrott's daughter, Sherrie Budreau, who's studying X-ray technology at Mercy hospital.
Mr. Parrott for many years has been the sexton at Oakland cemetery, and a local mortician, we're told, is now known as "Cupid" in the couple's circle of friends, because of his active role in promoting the romance.

He became an onsite director of a Boys and Girls Club camp of Santa Barbara and then worked for the Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired camp outside of San Francisco. One of his favorite jobs as a youth was being a ride operator at Disneyland as a captain of the submarine ride and an announcer/host for America the Beautiful Circle Vision 360 experience. He always pursued careers that focused on improving the lives of the youth/people while bringing laughter and happiness to everyone.

His hobbies included driving around in his bright red truck, listening to a static-filled talk show on the radio, while going to antique shops, thrift stores, yard sales, and car shows. He often entered his '48 Plymouth Woody in the Thunder on the Mountain car show. Whenever he talked with people he would joke around, recall memories, and retell old jokes he once told them. He would even joke and talk with strangers. He had such a positive view of life and believed in living his life by sharing laughter and memories. He enjoyed camping, hiking, skiing, bike riding, kayaking, and anything outdoor-related as long as he was with his family.
A celebration of life will be held in his honor and all who knew him are welcome to attend. Information to come at a later date. We hope everyone can continue to share laughter, bad dad jokes, and puns just as Mr. Parrott would.

Notes: Peace Corpsman's Body Is Discovered Washington - The Peace Corps said that a body believed to be that of missing volunteer John S. Parrott of Sarasota had been found in an African forest yesterday. Police were investigating the possibility of suicide.
According to reports reaching Washington, the body was discovered in a wild, remote region in Lake Nakuru National Park, 100 miles northwest of Nairobi, Kenya.
Parrott, 22, has been the object of an intensive Kenya police search since Oct. 30. "There was no evidence of foul play (but) there are possible indications of suicide, according to police and a Peace Corps official who went to the scene," a Peace Corps statement said.
Parrott was last seen Oct. 30 in Nakuru. The day before, had told fellow Peace Corps volunteers he was going to take a weekend trip to Turbo, several hundred miles away on the Ugandan border and would return Oct. 31 to Nairobi.
He failed to meet a chartered flight which was to take him to his duty station at Ferguson's Gulf on Lake Rudolf on Nov. 1
Parrott arrived in Kenya in Jun 1965. He was the son of Mrs. Marietta A. Parrott, and John C. Jones, Littleton, Colo. He was a graduate of Sarasota High School and attended Florida State University in Tallahassee. He took his Peace Corps training at the University of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
Earlier yesterday school teacher Tor Borander sighed the body through his field glasses while watching a rare animal known as a rock hyrax on a rock escarpment about 40 yards above the southwest shore of Lake Nakuru.
"The sighting was an extraordinary coincidence as the trees and boulders obscured all but a small patch of clothing from view. The area itself is in a wild and remote location, near a dirt road traveled only by naturalists" a Peace Corps spokesman said.
Police pathologists in Nairobi are now conducting an autopsy aimed at establishing positive identification and exact cause of death, the Peace Corps said.

214. Kenneth John Parrott (Charles Frank Jr.6, Charles Frank Sr.5, Andrew Blair4, Edmund Sr.3, Nicholas2, John S.1) was born on 18 Mar 1931 in Iowa and died on 30 Nov 2010 in Iowa City, Johnson Co., Iowa, at age 79.
Notes: JUDGE GIVES ADOPTED BOY BACK TO PARENTS Iowa City, Ia., - Judge James P. Gaffney ruled Saturday that Kenneth Parrott, 3-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Parrott, be returned to his parents.
The boy was adopted from the Iowa City juvenile home by Mr. and Mrs. Albert Yanausch a year ago, but a petition demanding his return was filed in district court last November by Mr. and Mrs. Parrott.
His parents, backed by the Interntional Labor Defense organization, claimed that the court was without jurisdiction because insufficient notice of the adoption had been given.
Waterloo Sunday Courier, 13 Jan 1935, p 2
===================== Text of Judge's Decision In Adoption Case <snip> Division One Kenneth Parrott, the person over whom the petitioners and the parents are now contesting the custody, was at the time of the trial of the age of three years, the child of Charles F. Parrott and Anna Parrott. That the said Kenneth Parrott from and after his birth until during the month of January, 1932, lived with his natural parents an sisters and brothers, numbering at that time nine, in the home of his parents at Iowa City, Ia.
That on or about the 16th day of January, 1932, a complaint was filed in juvenile court by the probation officer of Johnson county, charging the said Kenneth Parrott and his brother and sister as being dependent and neglected children. That on January 16, 1932, the hearing on the said complaint was duly and regularly set for hearing on the 22nd day of January, 1932, and notice thereof prescribed to be served on all interested parties as by law provided. That a notice of said hearing in juvenile court was duly and regularly served upon the parents of said Kenneth Parrott on the 18th day of January 1932. The on the 22nd day of January, 1932, an order was madee in the juvenile court committing the custody of the said three named children in the juvenile complaint to the probation officer at the juvenile home in Iowas City, Ia., and further provided that the said three children should remain in the home until the 15th day of April, 1932, unless the court should return said children to their parents. That the evidence further shows that the oral agreement had between the probation officer and a former mayor of Iowa City with the parents of Kenneth Parrott at the time of the proceedings referred to being had in juvenile court, substantially conformed with the order made under date of January 22nd above referred to, to the effect that the said three children would be returned to the natural parents of the child in question, during the spring of 1932. That during the spring of 1932 and in pursuance of the oral agreement and court order the said officers did return the said three children to the home of the natural parents. Two of the said children were left at the home of the parents, but on account of the natural mother being engaged in housecleaning and garden work, the said Kenneth was returned to the juvenile home. That on or about January 11, 1934, the juvenile court, apparently of the opinion that all prior proceedings in said court were regular, placed the care, custody, and control of the said Kenneth Parrott with the petitioners herein, and that the said petitioners continuously since said date have exercised care, custody, and control over said child.
Division Two <snip> The evidence shows and the court so finds that the natural parents of Kenneth Parrott have since their marriage resided in their home located on four acres of ground in Iowa City, Ia., which they own. That to this union were born 11 children, ranging in ages from 17 years to six months, and all of whom are alive and living with their parents at their home. That Kenneth Parrott is the second youngest child. That the natural father might be classed as a common laborer and has been employed except for short periods and intervals. That during the month of December, 1931 and the month of January, 1932, Miss Emma Harvat, former mayor of Iowa City, and Mrs. Mabel Evans, probation officer, called at the Parrott home, and according to their evidence, found Kenneth, then a small baby, and one of his sisters and brothers in need of a different type of care than they were then receiving in the Parrott home, and prevailed upon the natural parents to permit these three children to go the juvenile home in Iowa City until the spring. At this time the father of the child had no cows and it was suggested that he secure a cow in order that there be more milk give to his children. He did comply with this suggestion and at the time of the trial owned three cows. The evidence of the officers referred to and of neighbors has established the fact that the Parrott household was in a somewhat unkempt and unclean condition and that the children at times were not as well clothed as they might be. <snip> The court finds that there is an absence of evidence showing an abondonment, relinquishment, forfeiture, or waiver upon the part of the natural parents of their rights to the custody, care and control of Kenneth Parrott, and finds that the evidence establishes that they did not intend to reliquish, abandon, waive or forfeit their natural custodial rights to Kenneth Parrott. <snip>
